Abu Dhabi: 27th June 2018: Leonardo da Vinci’s “Salvator Mundi” to go on display: Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism (UAE) made the announcement in a statement June 27, 2018, about the Renaissance oil painting of Christ, whose name in Latin means “Saviour of the World”.The painting depicts a blue-robed Jesus holding a crystal orb and gazing directly at the viewer. Western diplomats say a Saudi royal acting as a proxy for Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was the buyer. The Saudi Embassy in Washington says the Saudi royal purchased the painting on behalf of the The Louvre Abu Dhabi, a $1 billion initiative that was a decade in the making and which opened to the public just four days before the record-setting sale. |
